How to Create and Utilize Diablo 4 Gems
Feb-19-2024 PST
Diablo 4 introduces a familiar feature from previous games - Gems. These Gems can be obtained, upgraded, and socketed into your gear to provide additional effects. This guide will provide information on acquiring gems, upgrading their quality, and effectively socketing them into your armor, weapons, and jewelry.
Understanding Gems
Gems were first introduced in Diablo 2 and can be obtained by defeating enemies, looting chests, or discovering them in various locations throughout the world. They come in different colors, such as red Rubies, blue Sapphires, green Emeralds, and even Skulls. Each Gem imbues gear with unique bonuses based on its type, quality, and the specific gear it is placed in. For instance, Gems placed in weapons typically enhance damage output, while those placed in armor increase life or resistance to specific elements. Gems offer a way to customize and strategize with your gear, allowing you to enhance your playstyle or gain advantages against specific threats. Unlike earlier versions of the game, Diablo 4 allows you to unsocket gear (for a fee) and replace Gems with improved ones as you discover them.
Obtaining and Upgrading Gems
When starting a new character in Diablo 4, Gems will not be available until certain level requirements are met. Gems can be found in various locations, including drops from enemies, chests, interactive objects, and quest rewards. Ore Veins scattered throughout the open regions, particularly in rocky terrain, high mountains, or cave passages, are excellent sources for finding Gems. These ore veins often contain not only materials for upgrading gear, such as steel and silver, but also Gems. Once you reach Level 20, you can visit a Jeweler in town to upgrade the quality of your Gems. Each region's main town, such as Kyovoshad in the Fractured Peaks, Cerrigar in Scosglen, Ked Bardu in the Dry Steppes, Gea Kul in Kehjistan, and Zarbinzet in Hawezar, will have at least one Jeweler available for this purpose.
